The Epic Manager Named

By | Epic Extras

We are very excited to announce that Amanda Alms will be the first Manager of The Epic. Amanda, currently the Manager of The Summit, came out on top after an exhaustive international search, which included finalists from DFW and as far away as Saudi Arabia. Amanda was on the team that opened The Summit, America’s first baby boomer facility, to international acclaim and a host of national and local awards.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Amanda also worked with North Richland Hills at their impressive NRH Centre before coming home to lead us at The Summit. Amanda has a unique gift of the importance of business operations, Raving Fan Service, and great creativity and team building. We will be announcing future staff members on the blog as soon as they are finalized.

EPIC EXTRAS: An Epic Legend visits The Epic

By | Epic Extras

We were honored to host Dr. John Crompton, Regents Professor and Distinguised Professor from Texas A&M University’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Science.  Dr. Crompton is the leading researcher and educator in his field, and he made his initial visit to The Epic and Epic Waters site last week.  “I believe the City should call this a resort,” Dr. Crompton told City leaders after his tour.

One of the rentable areas of The Epic is “Crompton’s” which is to honor Dr. Crompton and all the advice and direction he gave the City on creating a master plan that not only housed our great facilities, but also left room for public/private partnerships which would help pay for park maintenance and potential expansion.   As he stated, our Economic Development Department is now working with multiple developers and we can say it is “very likely” that hotels will be a part of the Grand Central family!   As always, we will keep you updated on all of the grand developments!

Here are the latest dates:
Epic Waters – Working for a November 2017 Opening
The Epic – Working on a January 2018 Opening
PlayGrand Adventures – Working on a Summer 2018 Opening

In an upcoming blog, we will feature the first Epic Manager as we close in on an official announcement!   Stay Tuned!

First Take: Indoor Futsal Court

By | Epic Extras

As we continue our First Look and First Take series, we are proud to introduce many of you to FUTSAL. We are proud to have an artificial turf FUTSAL Court inside The Epic.

U.S. Soccer says it like this, “Futsal is a sport that is a derivative of soccer and played with five-man teams on a basketball style court with no walls and a small, low-bouncing ball. Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Zico, Ronaldo and Neymar grew up playing the game and credit futsal with developing their skills.”

Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks has secured the rights to a Professional Futsal team in Dallas. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. The Epic will be proud to have Futsal leagues and to help everyone play this exciting player and spectator sport! Can’t wait for you to see YOUR FUTSAL COURT!

First Take: Epic Theater

By | Epic Extras

Welcome to another addition of First Take and First Look. As you have heard us talk about, we listened to YOU, and YOUR recreation center goes above and beyond what most people think of when they hear the term “Recreation Center”. Here is another example:

“First Take”—-The Epic Theater

The Epic Theater is one of the unique additions to The Epic. With a capacity of over 200, this state-of-the-art venue will house community, regional and even national touring acts. But, at the forefront will be showcasing the talent of Grand Prairie, from garage bands to the award-winning GPISD fine arts students. Resembling “The Kessler Theater” in the Bishop Arts area of Dallas, The Epic Theater will also have exclusive balcony seating and two small suites in the back of the theater. Concessions are also available near by so your evening will be totally complete! In addition, The Epic Theater will have no fixed seats, which makes it very flexible: Events could range from a dinner theater with table seating, to strictly chair seating for a major event. With easy access for bands and musicians, The Epic Theater is another reason you will want to be a member in YOUR Epic project. Enjoy “First Look” pictures of YOUR Epic Theater!
