Prevent the spread of COVID-19

By | Epic Extras

Local Summary

The City of Grand Prairie continues to work with the Dallas County Health Department, Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in containing the spread of the virus through public education and identifying mitigation strategies.

How can I avoid infection with COVID-19?

The best way to prevent infection is to take precautions to avoid exposure to this virus. These are exactly the same precautions you would take to avoid coming down with a cold or the flu.

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends these everyday actions to help prevent the spread of all respiratory viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Artist Spotlight: Cure For Paranoia

By | Epic Extras

You can see Cure For Paranoia perform on The Epic Theater stage during The Epic Music Showcase on Saturday, September 28.  Each week, we will highlight one of the artists on this year’s lineup, all composed of local music talent across different genres.  Tickets are available here.

Genre: Soul-infused hip hop
Goes great with: Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Mos Def
Hometown: Dallas

Bio
The soul-infused hip-hop outfit has become the new face of the storied Dallas neighborhood. Now the band is taking Deep Ellum worldwide.

The musicians that make up Dallas hip-hop group Cure for Paranoia have their own bold energy and personal styles which would best be described as aggressively funky, a style that carries through to their music. Between Tomahawk Jonez’s and Jay Analog’s production, Stanley Francisko’s airy vocals, and Cameron McCloud’s brisk lyrical delivery, the band has designed its own brand of “trippy soul-infused hip-hop.”

The group formed when the four guys took a “doomsday road trip.” Following the advice of some conspiracy theorist friends, they packed up and headed to an ideal place to wait out the apocalypse. When an earth-shattering meteor didn’t hit, inspiration did. Having recently been diagnosed with bipolar paranoid schizophrenia, McCloud found clarity in making music with Analog, Jonez, and Francisko. By the time they returned home, the band was born.

Cure for Paranoia quickly made a name for themselves being awarded Dallas Observer’s Best New Act in 2016 and Best Group Act in 2017. They formed a relationship with Erykah Badu after McCloud was recorded rapping to her backstage of the Bomb Factory, which allowed them to perform at 2 of her sold out Birthday celebrations. The group’s diverse music has allowed them to share bills with a wide range of artists such as Nas, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelik, Run The Jewels, Ludacris, Flying Lotus, BADBADNOTGOOD, Purity Ring, 21 Savage, and tour with Bone Thugs -n- Harmony. Their song “Feel Alive” was used by ESPN for the 2018 US Open Grand Slam campaign.
